Dr. Gelson Pereira da Silva
Professor Gelson Pereira da Silva (registered with the Brazilian Ministry of Education under no. 17.719/93-LP) through the University of Cambridge/UniSantos, is an Attorney graduated from Universidade Católica de Santos, holds a specialisation in Corporate Law from FGV-Law/SP, and was appointed Sworn Public Translator and Commercial Interpreter (English/Portuguese) under Ordinance no. 68/2000, registration no. 938. Admitted to the Brazilian Bar (OAB/SP) since 1999 and registered with the São Paulo Commercial Registry since 2000, he has extensive legal experience in Brazil and abroad, including personal testimony before a US court. His international experience as an attorney spans countries as diverse as India, Turkey, Poland, Thailand, Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, the USA, England, France, Portugal, Ireland, Mexico, South Africa, Ecuador and Uruguay, where he provided legal support in a wide range of commercial transactions. He lived and studied in England and the USA.
In São Paulo, he was the senior attorney responsible for the international department of Transbrasil Airlines and senior in-house counsel for Embraer and ECC Leasing Company Ltd. (a wholly owned Irish subsidiary), where he broadened and consolidated his expertise in international law. He is a member of BritCham – the British Chamber of Commerce – and of the Translegal group of lawyer-linguists. He began his linguistic studies in the United States in 1990 at Wagner College, Staten Island, NYC, specialising in Legal Terminology (English/Portuguese) with a certificate awarded by the Alumni Association/SP. He holds several certificates from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford (England), notably the “ARELS Diploma” (1994), the “Overseas Teachers of English” certificate (1997) and the “Business 3” certificate (1999). He took part in the “18th International Airfinance Legal Conference” in Washington DC as an attendant in 2003. Today, in addition to practising law and teaching, he acts as a sworn public translator in judicial proceedings.
